Stress in the US business comes a long way. Estimates range from $ 80 billion a year to $ 300 billion in diseases, absenteeism, reduced productivity, accidents, mistakes, burns, high traffic and soaring health insurance premiums.
It is not surprising, then, that many companies struggled with the stressful epidemic in an aggressive manner with the anti-stress arsenal. But there is a question of bitterness. If all of the stress management programs are so effective why so many workers have stressed it?
The answer may be that some organizations simply try too hard. Efforts to reduce stress are actually contributing to it. Well-meaning, like stress programs, many are complicated and time-consuming, require a lot of reading and recall, difficult to understand theories and practical advice, or simply not related to employees at their level.
Keep in mind that people who need stress are not time … and patience. They do not have time to participate in long-term stress seminars that drag them away from the task that emphasizes them. They have little patience to think about the guides and procedures in question in order to dig out those rare nuggets that are relevant to their situation. Some stress programs only treat the symptoms of stress, not the causes. They have a lasting effect. Workers are disappointed and cynical because they believe that nothing will work and will not return to their costly, stressful ways.
What can management and human resource professionals do to overcome these effective stress management barriers, their employees with solutions that connect and cling to? A good starting point is to offer simple, honest, targeted strategies for employees to quickly fit into their lives – techniques that attract attention and produce immediate results. They are less intrusive, require little or no time to implement, and the user is in the right starting position. To give some examples, I chose the following ten workplace strategies in my book and seminars that were tested with thousands of readers and participants positive feedback from around the world. Do one thing at a time. Do it right. Enjoy satisfaction. Then proceed to the next thing. Multitasking can work for computers, but people need to get rid of it. More and more evidence confirms that trying more things at the same time takes more time than one after the other. This consumes too much mental energy, so you get tired faster. The lack of attention also leads to carefree mistakes, whimsical work and unreliable performance. The worst thing to do is do things. This is not a lifestyle. Rotating on different projects.
For example, if you need three projects for the next week, you will need to complete one long stretch, stretched and tiring. Instead, share your time every third day and work all three. Each project provides a refreshing break for the rest while continuing to make progress. How much time does losing control over things. Check the weather. Check the time. Check the markets. Check out your email. Check your hair. Check your voicemail. Check the news. Check the makeup. So resist the urge to get constant, unnecessary, monotonous upgrades. Use this time to keep the focus and do more. If you try to check something out … just leave it.
Forget the deadlines. What about the start lines?
To a society that is obsessed with the end of a project, we are curious when to start. And that may be all the most important factors. This can explain why they do not meet so many deadlines. Instead of something due, it must be emphasized that it is in the process. Set a "start line". That is, a time before it is essential to start a project, so it will not be done urgently and pale. If you stick to the start line, it not only provides effective, inscrutable performance but also eliminates the need for a deadline … and the anxiety that comes with it.
